History

A story that begins in 1933

Buffet da Vittorio opened in 1933 in the centre of Trieste. After two years of closure it reopened in December 2023 with Andrea Furlani, heir of the founding family.

    Vittorio opens the buffet

    Vittorio opens his buffet in the centre of Trieste. It still bears his name.

  2. The 1940s

    Nives Kobez in the kitchen

    Nives, born in 1924, spends many years working alongside Vittorio. Local press accounts remember above all her fish dishes.

  3. The war years

    A hiding place in the kitchen

    According to the local press, during the war Vittorio hides some persecuted Jews in the buffet's kitchen.

  4. 18 December 2023

    The reopening

    After two years of closure the buffet reopens with Andrea Furlani. The rooms have been refurbished, the family memorabilia are still on the walls and the dining room seats fifty.

Music

A small stage at the back of the room

At the back of the room there are guitars, a keyboard, amplifiers and a microphone. The instruments are there for anyone who wants to play.

Sometimes musicians from the Tartini Conservatory drop by to play. There's no events calendar: news is posted on the Facebook page.
